Supported operating systems
The agent runs on any Linux distribution with a recent enough kernel. The following distributions are tested and supported for OS lifecycle detection (end-of-life status).
Fully supported
| Distribution | Versions tested | Package manager |
|---|---|---|
| Ubuntu | 16.04, 18.04, 20.04, 22.04, 24.04 | apt |
| Debian | 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 | apt |
| CentOS | 7, 8 | yum/dnf |
| RHEL | 7, 8, 9 | dnf |
| Rocky Linux | 8, 9 | dnf |
| AlmaLinux | 8, 9 | dnf |
| Alpine Linux | 3.x | apk |
Community supported
These distributions work but may not have full EOL lifecycle detection:
| Distribution | Package manager |
|---|---|
| Fedora | dnf |
| openSUSE | zypper |
| Arch Linux | pacman |
Requirements
- Linux kernel 3.10+ (any architecture: amd64, arm64)
- Root access (the agent reads system configuration that requires elevated permissions)
- Outbound HTTPS to
api.ghostpsy.com - systemd or sysvinit (for service detection)
End-of-life detection
Ghostpsy checks the OS version against endoflife.date data to determine support status:
- Supported — the OS receives regular security updates
- Extended support — the OS is in extended/paid support (e.g., RHEL ELS, Ubuntu ESM)
- End of life — the OS no longer receives security updates
If the agent detects that the host has a paid extended support subscription (Ubuntu Pro ESM, Debian ELTS), the status reflects that.
